The #7links Challenge To Write A Sneeze Page

You may not be able to tell right now, but I am not here. That is, I am not where I usually am when I write. Really, I won’t be here again for another couple of days. Jobs are sometimes quite demanding.

Anyway, I was going to write another post about goal setting, how to reduce stress, and productivity today but I got to thinking about a couple of people I met here (on the web) and that got me thinking about their writing. So I went looking around to see if they still inspire me.

One of these people is Matthew Needham. Now, I have to admit that the first thing I noticed about him was his name. Need & ham. A great combination of words to have as a last name to be sure. I love it.

Anyway, just to stop rambling here, I am going to get to the point. Matthew wrote a post called “The 7 Link Challenge – #7links” and in reading it, I found that it was about something called a sneeze page. Now that is also very funny, so I was basically in blog heaven. Apparently, a nice man named Darren Rowse wrote a post called “Take the 7 Link Challenge Today #7links” and I figured I would copy Matthew’s idea here. Really, I don’t really want to have to think too much today. It is hot out.

Your first post

This blog was started in the middle of March. The first few posts were nothing more than me just trying to keep track of some things that I wanted to remember. Though it is not technically the first post, the first one that I thought of as a blog post was 7 completely wonderful ways to waste time at work. I thought it was a nice post and thought that maybe someone would find it interesting. I don’t really know if anyone read it, but it was fun to write.

A post you enjoyed writing the most

There could only be one for this. Is The internets Makin’ Yins Stupiter?

A post which had a great discussion

There are probably 15 or more posts on icebluebanana.com that have received comments that really blew me away. Once such post is called Innovation’s Last Stand. It received some of the most amazing comments I have ever seen anywhere.

A post on someone else’s blog that you wish you’d written

Wow. This one is hard. There are so many. @Mary_Jaksch recently wrote a guest post about being happy and productive at zenhabits.net that I thought was great. I think that it was the unusual tips that did it for me.

Also, there was keyword research blog (Alex Whalley)’s post about grammar. It were funny.

Your most helpful post

Hmm. This is an interesting topic. I don’t know how helpful (or hurtful) my posts have been. I can say that I think that 5 Tips to Reduce Stress and Increase Productivity may be one of the more helpful ones, though How to Determine If You Use Your Time Wisely has caused a few people to thank me via email (which was nice :) ).

Yeah, I know that I pointed to two posts. Who is writing this thing, me or you?

A post with a title that you are proud of

This would have to be Selling Rapture Insurance – Creative Thinking For a New Age. To say that I am proud of this title is a bit of an overstatement, but I do like it more than the others (mostly because I think it is funny). Well, I did like the title of Is Work/Life Balance just a scam? too, but that is just because I like questions.

A post that you wish more people had read

My real answer to this is all of them, I guess. But, since I have to give a link to something…I choose…When Is Doing Something Well Not Enough? Now.

Conclusion

By the way, another person who writes things that I love is Karen Ruby. She wrote a 7 Link Challenge post as well.

Have a great day!

    Hi Mark,

Awesome ‘entry’ into the challenge! I noticed the challenge when Darren laid it out on his blog wrote mine on my mental health blog and it was a wonderful exercise for me as well.

    Thanks for sharing!

      I appreciate you dropping by.

      Hi Preeti,

I agree. Darren’s idea was a great one. Later this week I intend to go through the comments in his post. There were quite a few when I read it. Have a great day!

    Hi Mark,

So glad that you discovered Darren’s site – it’s very inspirational and provides excellent articles. It’s one of my favourite places to read.

Thanks for the kind mention of my site. I had a lot of fun doing the 7 Links challenge, too. It made me go back through my archives and really think about each article and the categories.

I loved your ‘Stupiter” post. Hilarious :-)

You’ve only had this site since March? Wow, it’s very impressive how far you’ve come in so short a time.

I’m still laughing over ‘need ham.’ I swear, you must have quite the party going on in your brain :) Great entry into the 7-Link Challenge. I’m holding off til one day when I’m strapped for time. Then I’ll add an eighth point as a late fee.

Ha. Most people actually say that there is nothing at all going on in my brain, so I appreciate your vote of confidence!

      Have a great day Jean!

I did not read Darren’s post about the 7 link challenge nor did I read Matthews post. So thanks for sharing the idea here.

In looking at the referred posts above, some I had read and some you had written before I found your site. I was cool to read some of those posts.

I still laugh about you learning about how a flat screen monitor can move up and down and tilt in your post ” Is The internets Makin’ Yins Stupiter?”.

Ha. At first I was concerned that the timing might be wrong for coffee. I keep forgetting which side of the world you are on.

I appreciate you pointing out Darren’s site & this idea. It seems likely that I will do this once a year or so.

I hope you enjoy the posts & have a great day!

  8. hmmm… a sneeze page.

I would have thought that it was something about catching a cold.

However, after reading about it, I can see that it is a quite sneaking way, to get people to read your blog ;-)

Ha. Yeah, I am not sure where the term came from, but it is funny. I am thinking about making a new kind of marketing page and calling it a ‘kleenex page’.

      Have a great day!

  9. Mark,

These types of pagees are great, becuase you get to spread the work of other people and you can re-invigorate your old hrd work that may be buried in your blog somewhere, just itching to get out.

I just did a similar type of post today on my blog. Re-publishing content on your blog is a great way to generate new interest without having to keep re-writing the same ideas over and over.

  11. Hey Mark -

Loved the post Is The internets Makin’ Yins Stupiter? — I was intrigued to read it because you said so little in your description. (wow, spell check is really giving me a hard time about your title here — it’s distracting! Sorry, got side tracked there.)

Back to your article, I know what you mean about research taking us away from creativity — and, do we follow our intuition less? Gotta say your post makes me appreciate my mastermind groups more and leads me to realize I gotta let ‘em know it. Real people solving real problems, brainstorming, networking and resource sourcing — and it doesn’t have to be in person.

Thanks for the post, I really did love it and I can see why you liked writing it!
