This Week on the Web, 11 July 2010

I was (mostly) away from this blog for about three weeks up until this past Sunday. In that time there were many, many things that I thought about. Unfortunately I did not write any of it down, so I had to come up with new stuff for posts. I chose to just write and hope for the best.
I also tried to increase my Twitter following a bit, and I know this does not sound like it is related to the topic today, but someday I want to have as many followers as Aaron Lee.
Anyway, onto the good stuff –
Shameless plugs & other stuff (minus the other stuff)
Hulbert Lee, who might be the nicest person I have ever met, recorded a conversation that we had and was kind enough to post it on his website. He even gave away my last name.
I also wrote about what I think about on the bus. If you think that sounds weird, you should read the post – “How Change Can Happen to You“.
Found Elsewhere on the Net
Ayo wrote about his Battle With Self Doubt. The thing that I found truly incredible about this post is that Ayo took a very complex and dark topic and turned it into a very inspiring post.
Sally seems to have won herself a contest, a new site design, a vacation, and an ebook to write (ok, so she did not win the last two – it just sounded exciting). You can read about it in Alex Jeffreys Student Blog Competition Result.
keyword research blog, formerly known as Alex Whalley wrote an article about anchor text and keywords (sort of) that included links to a few excellent posts from a bunch of other bloggers. If you have a chance, you really should check out Alex…oops, I mean, keyword research blog‘s…erm…blog.
Brandon is still a forward thinking person. He has found a way to teach you how to make money blogging without even visiting his site! That’s right, he has written a free ebook about blogging for income. I gave it a read and found a bunch of useful information – I bet you will too!
Also, I should mention two articles that were written by different people but both are really interesting, and likely useful. Both are about twitter –
How to follow the right people on Twitter was written by Sunil Jain (another blogger I regularly read) and has some great & unique tips.
Plus, keyword research blog also wrote an article about using Twitter effectively. There really is no stopping him.
Your Turn
Do you have an article or blog that you believe should be here in the future? Tweet them to me at @icebluebanana or tell me about it in the comments below!
By the way, don’t forget that it is Follow Friday on Twitter – you can find great people to follow by searching on “#FF”, or if you want to find my recommendations, search for “#ibb” or find me at @icebluebanana.
No matter what you do, do it well & have a great day!

Hi Mark
This is the first time I’ve seen the “this week on the web” feature on your blog. I must say I quite like it. Always love being tipped off to new and wonderful resources.
I really like the way you’re so honest with your self plug and also the fact that you just started writing because you forgot to write down your inspiration.
Ayo’s battel with self doubt is fascinating and brilliant – thanks for the heads up.
Hope all is well with you,
Sam

I am glad that you like the idea. I first started doing it as a way of keeping track of what I liked & then continued as a way to give some credit to people I admire.
Yeah, I only found Ayo’s site a couple of weeks ago & I really like what he is doing.
Have a great weekend Sam!

Great list of links, Mark!
More to the point, way to mention them in the utmost of funny manors, furthermore making them look interesting.
I’ve read all of them, for the most part, and can second that they deserve a mention. Great post!
Hey Joe,
Reading other’s ideas is by far my favorite part of being involved with blogging.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Mark
Aww thanks for my mention, I was pleased to win, got traffic from your blog and a few others, so really can’t take all the credit!
I like when you do these posts, unfortunately I have been away and not read many blog posts, but I did really like your “how change can happen to you”.
It was nice to read something non-internet marketing related for once, plus to get a little glimpse into your life again was nice too, you write beautifully and really do paint a picture in your reader’s mind.

Thanks for sharing those links. Some really good information available that I probably would not have found otherwise
Brilliant move by Brandon distributing that blogging ebook for free. I bet that it gets shared a lot (like you have done today) and becomes a source of regular traffic! I am inspired to do the same now.

Hi Justin,
I am glad you found some value here – that was the point.
Yeah, Brandon seems to be filled with good, unique ideas. He is a great guy too. I believe he has another free ebook available on his site too.
Have a great day!

As usual, another great list Mark. I haven’t gone through all of them yet but I will tomorrow.
I love that post of yours about change and how it was laid out. Of course that interview with Hulbert made most of us say “so that’s why it’s called icebluebanana.” Also the opportunity to hear the voice behind the good looks
This post is why I look forward to Fridays and Matt’s WW as well.
Have a good one.

Hey Gines,
It was great talking to Hulbert. He is a very genuine person and I think that has come through in all of the interviews he has done. Actually, I recommend going back and listening to all of them. He has talked to some very interesting people.
I appreciate you stopping by

Hey Mark,
Appreciate the link love, and I mean link love!!! Dude I am going to go and update that post with a link to this post as a perfect example of how to link with some keyword love. Obviously I think you’re awesome for referring to me as the keyword research blog but all the links here are anchored nicely.
Great list and I concur with Joe that you have a great way of listing them. I too find your style engaging and humurous. Love the Sally comment especially. I was like ‘she won a holiday too?!?’ hahha
Thanks for the link love. (felt i had to tell you twice cause you gave me two mentions -there really is no stopping me you know)
Awesome Mark,

Ha. Thanks Alex. I think you are really onto something with the last few posts you have done.
The bus driver changed on Friday to an older guy who lives to turn very quickly. Hopefully he won’t flip the bus this week…
Have a great day!
hello mark,
how are you?
thanks for listing the article ‘my battles with self doubt’ on your blog. I’m humbled by this. I’m currently listening to your interview with hulbert and just chuckled at the point when hulbert asked if you had seen a blue banana lol!!!
you sound very calm and collected during the whole interview.
will check out the other links
take care of yourself and enjoy the rest of the day

I am really happy that you stopped by. The post you did about self-doubt was really amazing, so I was really happy to have found it!
Hulbert was great to talk to – there are a bunch of other interviews that he did on his site & I recommend listening to all of them (not all in the same day though). It is amazing how many bloggers seem to have so much in common, but come from fairly different backgrounds.
Have a great day Ayo!
